An in-depth look at the never-before-seen technology that superpowers the SUPER

It takes a whole lot of science to make things this simple. You’re already familiar with U Beauty’s OG Capsule technology, the SIREN, thanks to the Resurfacing Compound. Now, with the release of the SUPER Smart Hydrator, we’re introducing you to its new best friend, the HYDRA-SIREN. Here, Caroline Sands, our VP of Product Development, answers your questions and breaks it down to a, yes, super-simple science:

Q. What exactly is a HYDRA-SIREN? How is it different from the original SIREN Capsule?
A. The SIREN Capsule and HYDRA-SIREN Capsule are engineered the same. The only difference? The actives inside. The SIREN is activated when free radicals attack it, so they release their contents atop frail skin areas where free radicals accumulate. Actives in the SIREN are programmed to neutralize free radicals and visibly resurface damaged-looking skin. Those in the HYDRA-SIREN deliver antioxidants, vitamins, peptides and mega hydrating ingredients.

Q. So how does it work?
A. Our SIREN technology, which our Ph.D.-trained formulating chemists spent years developing, is the critical feature of all U Beauty products. SIRENS ensure ingredients get where they need to go successfully and just as importantly, don’t dissipate before arriving at their target. When the SIREN's antioxidant ingredients come into contact with free radicals, the free radicals are instantly neutralized, which ends the damage cascade and ensures ingredients successfully visibly restore the area previously under attack. SIRENS prevent the need to continuously increase active percentages for the same effect, diminishing the likelihood of irritation and sensitivity. 

Our technology is proprietary. Not to mention, it goes against traditional perceptions that you need more on your skin. Instead, less does more for better results. This is because a SIREN Capsule’s molecular structure is really appealing to a free radical that eagerly attacks it, believing it to be a healthy skin molecule. SIRENS trick free radicals by luring them with their attractive magnetism. After contact, the SIREN is activated, free radicals are neutralized and the SIREN’s contents permeate locally, precisely where needed.

Q. What was the initial motivation for developing it?
A. Where the skin is weak, barrier function is often compromised. A compromised barrier allows toxins in and moisture to escape, leaving skin dry, damaged and in need of visible repair. This can lead to skin issues: Think increased oil production, blemishes, breakouts, redness, dryness and sensitivity. Because SIRENS activate where the barrier is weak, we can deliver more hydration, longer and better. The potential of this molecule is very exciting. Knowing we can get endless ingredient combinations to the skin so efficiently is groundbreaking.

Q. What was involved in the development of the HYDRA-SIREN?

A. We knew we wanted to use Long Chain Hyaluronic Acid as a key ingredient because it’s capable of holding onto a significant amount of water. It’s typically the go-to surface hydrator, a perfect moisture shield atop the skin's surface. But (until now) it wasn’t able to get to the root of the problem, specifically where hydric stress occurred in deeper skin levels. So, we dehydrated it, made it small enough to fit inside the HYDRA-SIREN Capsule, which allowed us to successfully drive a mega-moisture hero ingredient right the skin desperately needed it.

Q. How different is the SUPER from other moisturizers, especially those containing Hyaluronic Acid?
A. If our special dehydrated LCHA didn’t get encapsulated in the HYDRA-SIREN, it would immediately link to water, absorb moisture and become too large to penetrate the skin. If a dehydrated LCHA was encapsulated in an ordinary capsule, it wouldn’t reach high-risk areas where free radicals accumulate as efficiently.And you wouldn’t get that deep, long-lasting moisture. Only the patent-pending HYDRA-SIREN can deliver this novel ingredient specifically to high-risk areas most in need of hydration. 

Q. How did we get the LCHA inside the SIREN?
A. A cycle of dehydration, dissolution (a process in which ingredients dissolve into a solution) and then more dehydration under a vacuum repeats until practically no moisture remains in the LCHA and it’s small enough to fit inside the HYDRA-SIREN Capsule, penetrating deeper into the skin. 

Q. The SUPER Smart Hydrator has five different types of Hyaluronic Acid. What does each one do?
A. Not all Hyaluronic Acid is created the same, and each one has a specific and meaningful purpose:

1. Long-Chain Hyaluronic Acid: In the HYDRA-SIREN, it delivers deep, sustained hydration clinically proven to last for days with just one application.

2. Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer: A three-dimensional net of Hyaluronic Acids creates a permeable shield on the skin's surface to prevent moisture loss, pull moisture from the atmosphere into the skin and hold moisture in the skin in place.

3. Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid: Smaller, molecular-sized HAs moisturize deeper layers.

4. Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate: An oil-loving HA with superior skin affinity brings deep moisture to typically unreachable areas.

5. Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate: A salt-form HA with a low molecular weight for even deeper penetration.

Q. What can I expect to see from the HYDRA-SIREN?
